The password to enter the door in the SE tower of the 1st level is 'SNOOPCHERI'. Use the ROTTEN CHEESE on the MOUSEHOLE.

Some small help for playing the game successfully:

When you create your characters, it may be a good idea just to make all of them Dracons. This is untested, but unless you have at least one of this fire breathing race you surely won't survive the game. So maybe it would be good to have more.
Use a good mix of the classes, try to take one of each spell class and a good solid theif that is at full strength. Get a good enough thief and you don't need a fighter. It may be slow, but keep rolling until you get the best character possible.
Be sure to make at least one character female, there are places in the game where this is a must. Dont do it and be sorry later!
Diversify your skills. Have each character specialise in a few skills relative to his class. Do not worry about developing weapons skills, you have no use for them if you created your party correctly.
In fights early in the game use Dracons breath attack, just be careful not to overextend yourself. Rest after each encounter, backing up your hard work.
Allways search the area after a combat.
Search each square you step in. Not only this, but search facing all four directions, many things can only be found that way. Thieves are not always true. If you find a lock and have your thief open it, always guess it is POISON unless you are 100% sure (i.e. tried it before) because it is better to suffer something else than to die by getting this wrong.
Don't bash doors early in the game! If your characters are not very strong you will be sorry. Jammed doors do you no good, as you might never be able to open them again. Same foes for picking the lock. Wait until you get a caster capable of conjuring KNOCK KNOCK with at least 18 points (preferably 24) and do it this way. It is much more sure.
Once you know there are secret panels or buttons, keep walking past them until you discover them. You can find them by looking at the maps and know where they are, sometimes it takes awhile to sense them.

Walkthrough:

First a little about this walk through, I will tell you what you need, where to get it, where to use it and the right questions to ask the right people. I will tell you where to go by map names and numbered locations on the maps. At the end of this walk through I will tell you the NPC'S Want TO KNOW or need so you can get what you need.

Somethings beginners should know, add points to your scouting or you will not be able to find anything and add points to your thief's skulduggery and don't change your thief's profession because it's skulduggery + level that = open doors.
Now search map 'Castle LEVEL' for what ever items you can find then go to the north wall where you will find a gate, to the right of the gate you will find a button use the search command to open the gate, then go 'A' and search and you will find a key of ramm.
Now take any of stairs down to map 'Castle -1' and go to 'A' search for the cheese, then go to 'B' and get the wine bottle then go to 'C' face east and use the cheese. Go down the hall way, find the chest and open, there you will find the stuffed beagle you will need it. Now go to 'D' and get the jailer key. The jailer key will open most of the jail gates just to the north of here, and at 'E' you will find the dead man's log. You will not be able to read the log without another item, you will find it later.
Next go to 'F' and talk to QUEE QUEG, and buy some mystery oil next go to 'G' the captain's den and say the password that you got from QUEE QUEG then you can go through the door, there you will see a gate. You will need a key for that gate, to get it go to the southeast stairs and go up to the top of the tower, at the door say 'beloved' to get in, there you will get the key you need. Then go back to the captain's den, and open the gate and get the hook.
Next go map 'Castle LEVEL' and go up the side stairs on the west side and up to map 'Castle +1' and go to 'A' and get the keys of spade, then go back to map 'Castle LEVEL' to the stairs on the left side of the fountain, then go up until you come to the spade door and use the key of spades to open door, in this room you will find a chest with some chrome keys get the keys.
Next back to map 'Castle +1' go to 'B' use chrome key to open the door to the king's bedroom then go to 'C' and open chest and get the king's diary and the gold key. Next go back to the king's bedroom and go to the northwest corner and go through door then use ramm key to open gates, open north gate to get items out of chest. Then go on north through gate to 'D' altar of ramm. You are not quite ready for that yet. Now go back down the stairs you came up and go to the northwest stairs go down and around to the left and down again now on map 'Castle -2'.
Go down the hallway. You will find two gates and a door, go to gate two and use the gold key. Then go through the door, go north until a pit opens in front of you then go to the southeast side and face south wall with the button and search, then go to the northwest and face the button and search, then go back through the door and face the button on the west wall and search, go back through the door to the north wall where the button is and search. Open chest and get the book of ramm, then go back to the altar of ramm.
While in the character review mode, use the book of ramm to read it. It will show you the right buttons to push. Once done jump into the pit, and you will be on map 'Castle LEVEL' the north gate will open and the south gate will close. Then take the stairs to map 'Castle -1'.

HAZARDOUS AREA

NOTE: Use the hazardous map and the level-1 as one map
Go through the north door to 'I' get miner's pick, next go to 'J' and get the dungeon key, next go to 'K' and use the miner's pick to open wall, go to 'L' there you will see the chasm, you will have to come back later, go to 'M' get the bell key, now the dungeon key opens gates 1, 2, 3, 4 AND 5, go to 'N' and get the J.R. RING. Use the ring on the dead man's log in the REVIEW MODE.

THE BELFRY

Then go to map 'LEVEL +1' to stairs 'A' take the stairs up to the top of the BELFRY and use the bell rope to swing across, use the bell key to open the door then open the chest and get the rope, merge the rope with the hook. Now back to the chasm. Back at the chasm use the rope and hook to cross the chasm. On the other side go to 'O' there search/push the button. Now on map 'moun.'.

MOUNTAIN'S TO MINE'S

You are now at '1', On the west side of this map you will find six set's of stairs going down, You will only be able to get to 2 of them from this point take stairs 2 in to the mines, you are now on level 1 of the mines, use maps 1 through 4 of the mines to find your way through the maze of stairs. You're are now on level '1' of the mines.
Find your way to level 2 of the mines and go to 'B', 'C', and 'D' and fight the rubber beast and get the rubber strand's next go to 'A' and get the miner's chisel, Go to 'E' and talk to SMITTY. Next find your way to level '4' and go to 'A' and use the miners chisel until the diamond cracks, then go to 'B', 'C' and 'D' and do the same thing.
Then enter, you will meet the spirit of Xorphitus. He will tell you a long story. Search were his skeleton is and get the wizard's ring and the key of wizard cave. Next go to 'E' for one more rubber beast, now the wizard key open the 3 gates on level 1 of the mine's.
At gate 'C' on level '1' open and enter and you will see Xorphitus's apprentice, talk to and feed him. Next open gates 'A' and 'B'.
Then go to stair 4 to the mountain's and go to 'A' and climb up as far as you can then search get the boulders and go back to mountain stairs 4 and go down and go to stairs 5 and go up, go to 'C' you are at the drawbridge. First use the mystery oil to open the panel, the sequence to open the bridge is Safety, PUMP, COILWRAP, TRUSS, SAFETY, WINDER. I only refer to this because it seems to be a major part of the game but it is not important at all. Next go back down stairs 5 and make your way to stairs 6 and back up to mountain map and go to 'B' get the sprocket and take back to smitty and give it to him and he will fix it, once it is take it back to the catapult and take the rubber strands and merge two strands to make a braid and two braid's to make a rubber band, now use the rubber band and the fixed sprocket to fix the catapult, then use a boulder and fire the catapult until you hit the target. Then you will be able to go on east.
Next go to 'D' climb up to the door go in and up the stairs there at the cross you will find the guardian of the rock, when you beat him you will get the ruby eye, next go back down the stairs and go through the door at the northeast corner then through the door to the west and push the button and you will be dropped back to the mountain Area at 'E' from here go to 'F' and use the miner's pick.
This open's back in to the mountain's, next go to 'G' you will find some sand you will have to come back here later, next go to the west side stairs and go up, down the hall and up again. You are on level '1' of the pyramid.

THE PYRAMID

The pyramid is like the mines only not as big. Using pyramid map's '1 through 4' to get through, on level 1 go to 'A' and fight the gloop sploch monster and get the gloop sploch, next go to 'B' which has a chest with a sack in it get the sack and take it back to 'G' of mountain area and fill it with sand. Then back to level '1' of the pyramid, there will be area's marked with a 'x' on all of the pyramid map's that have a button that you must push as you go through. Next go to 'C' in this room there are four alcove's that have one chest that fly's away when your in the area so use the gloop sploch on one of the alcove's then chase the chest until it lands on that alcove then open the chest and get the bone key. Now go to level '1' stairs 'X' of the pyramid and go down.

THE IDOL

You should now be on the map idolquest, go to gate use the bone key to open gate, go to 'A' and two pits will open one to the south and one to the north, at 'B' there is a button on the wall push it to close the pits.
Then go to 'C' and push the button on the east wall then go to 'D' and push the button there, next go to 'E' and push the button there and a pit will open enter the pit. You will be in a z shape hall go to the west side and push the button, you will be at 'F' go to 'G' push the button, go to 'H' push the button, then go to 'I' this open a alcove to 'J' push the button at 'J' then go to 'K' and use the bag of sand to get the idol, then make your way back to gate 'A' on level 3 of the pyramid.
Use the idol to open the gate and go up to level 4 of the pyramid when you talk to Amazulu give her something of no value. Then when you talk to her sidekick purchase some foot powder and use the powder then go west to 'A' there you must defeat MAU-MU-MU he has the other ruby eyeball, once you have the eyeball. Go back to 'Castle -2'.

CASTLE TO THE RIVER STYX

Go to the first gate and use the wizard's ring to open the gate and enter, go to 'P' open chest and get the wizard's book and the spire key. Then go to the stairs by the fountain at level 'castle mainent' take the east stair's and use the spire key to get through the gate all the way to the top, and use the key of spades at the door inside there you will encounter a spirit and you will get the horn of souls. Then go back to 'Castle -2' go all the way down the hall to the skull door and use both of the ruby eyeball's on the door then go through to the stairs and down to the river.

THE RIVER STYX

I will lead you through the map in section's. To start you are in the northern end of sec. 1 go to 'A' and use the horn of souls, the ferryman charron will appear since you don't have any cylinder of ashes give him 500 gold and he will take you to the isle of the damned on sec. 2 go to 'B' and get the book and key of the damned, open the north and south gates, at 'C' get the key of minos and a cylinder of ash after the fight, then go to 'D' and get a second cylinder of ash, next go back to 'B' and use the minos key to open the gate and down the stairs (there is no map for this area) go to the end of the hall, open the chest and get the tomb key, use this key to open the north and south tomb gates. Search all of the tomb's to find the book of the sirens and copy down the passages from the book.
Next go back up the stairs to 'E' and enter the boat, this is all automatic to the sirens and back to 'E'. (in the river area you will find some wooden door's that can be open with the knock-knock spell but you may have to use it more than once per door). If you face the water and use the water wings you can walk on water so to speak. From sec. 2 go to sec. 1 'F' there you will find a chest with a fish hook, line and a cork bobber ,merge the line and hook,then go to sec. 3 at 'G' there you will find a red 'x' on the wall, from there go east 3 and north 1 and use your fishing line and hook. You will get the east exit key, then go to the isle of the lost on sec. 3 at 'H' search at the northwest wall to open the wall go through to the door, enter the door, now the key to this gate is at 'J' open gate and open chest get the cylinder of ash you should have three of them.
Go to sec. 1 at 'K' and go up the stairs until your at the gate there use the east exit key. Use the map swamp area, go to 'A' and talk to the caterpillar. ask him (about RUMORS, WHERE IS THE PIPE and CLAIM NUMBER) and buy some incense. Then go back to the river sec. 2 point 'L' the bottle oracle.
Merge the bottle and the note then merge the cork with the bottle/note. Then use the bottle next go to the isle of the lost there you will find the bottle again look at the bottle it will tell you the claim number. Next go the isle of the keep on sec. 3 'M' talk to mai lai, then go in and get the pipe. Next go back to the caterpillar give him the pipe and accept his mushrooms then go back to the river sec. 1 point 'A' and use the horn again to summon charron and give him all three cylinders. Then go to 'N' and use the key of the dead to open the gate then go around to the stairs and down.
